Yield and seed quality of some soybean (Glycine max. L) varieties, cultivated in Osmaniye region, Turkey

Abstract. This study was carried out to determine yield and seed quality of 14 soybean varieties (Blaze, Ataem-7, Bravo, İlksoy, Çetinbey, Nova, Atakişi, Cinsoy, Adasoy, Umut-2002, Türksoy, Arısoy, HA.16-21 and SA-88), conducted with 3 replicates, according to the Randomized Block Experimental Design in the Osmaniye region, Turkey during 2016 growing season. Plant height, seed number per pod, first pod height, number of branches per plant, number of pods per node, number of pods per plant, harvest index, protein content, oil content, hundred seed weight, seed yield and fatty acid composition were the parameters examined. It was found that the controlled parameters values at different soybean varieties ranged as follows: plant height – between 69.47cm (Blaze) and 101.83cm (HA.16-21); number of seeds per pod – between 1.82 units/pod (Adasoy) and 2.21 units/pod (Blaze); first pod height – between 13.10cm (Blaze) and 22.53 cm (Umut-2002); number of branches per plant – between 1.07 units/plant (HA.16-21) and 3.00 units/plant (Nova); number of pods per node – between 2.43 units/node (Umut-2002) and 4.81 units/node (Adasoy); number of pods per plant – between 27.40 units/plant (Umut-2002) and 47.73 units/plant (Adasoy); Harvest Index values – between 43.99% (HA.16-21) and 54.72% (Ataem) – 55.42% (Blaze); protein content – between 36.09% (Nova) and 39.17% (Çetinbey); oil content – between 15.71% (Blaze) and 19.73% (Türksoy) – 19.82% (Arısoy); 100 seed weight – between 12.54g (Arısoy) and 19.18g (Çetinbey); seed yield – between 2470.41 kg/ha (Arısoy) and 3280.03 kg/ha (Adasoy); acid composition values: palmitic acid – from 9.97% (Türksoy) to 11.47% (Çetinbey); stearic acid – from 3.82% (Ataem-7) to 4.38% (Türksoy); oleic acid – from 22.39% (Bravo) to 28.14% (Çetinbey); linoleic acid – from 47.30% (Çetinbey) to 53.26%  (Ataem-7) and linolenic acid – from 5.49% (Türksoy) to 6.88% (Bravo). The soybean varieties tested showed different advantages over the individual parameters: in terms of seed yield – Adasoy (3280.03 kg/ha) and Atakişi (3260.60 kg/ha) varieties; in terms of protein content – Çetinbey (39.17%) followed by SA-88 (38.55%) genotype; in terms of oil content – Türksoy variety (19.82%) followed by Arisoy (19.73%) variety; in terms of fatty acid composition the results are very diverse.

 

Influence of the variety and sowing rate on the green mass productivity of Sudan grass and Sorghum x Sudan grass hybrids

Abstract. The influence of the in-row sowing rate for different varieties of Sudan grass and Sorghum x Sudan grass hybrids on the green mass productiveness in brooming stage was studied in 2010–2011. In significantly differing agro-climatic conditions of the two years the denser sowings form higher yield of green and dry mass, and the rainfalls distribution has a significant importance for the more favorable yield structure. The tested varieties and hybrids have high productive potential for stable yields of green mass in conditions of extreme deviations from the agro-climatic norms.

A study on the biological and economic qualities of common winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)

Abstract. The studies have been carried out through demonstrative experiments by the first in the country private Seedsman’s house “Sadovo”. Presented are the results from the studies on the productivity and some qualitative indices of the varieties of common soft wheat over a period of 6 years. The subject of the study are the varieties Pobeda, Bononia, Sadovska belia and Diamant which take about 1/3 of the total area of wheat in the country. Parallel with these data, the data on the new generation of varieties Sapfir, Trakiyka, Lazur and Zebrets, and the new genotypes – Apolon, Bezmer, Sezam and Bendida are presented as well. The Pobeda variety has been a national standard of the high-quality, strong wheat – improvers of flour (group A) for 25 years, and the rest three varieties present a new achievement in selection of highly productive, intensive and quality varieties which are well accepted in production of bread grain in Bulgaria. The Diamant variety is distinguished for its high quality.

Grain yield of winter feed barley varieties

Abstract. Five winter feed barley varieties were tested at the experimental field of the Institute of Agriculture – Karnobat over a six-year period to assess their yield potential and stability. Varieties Bozhin and Iz Bori are new varieties and Vesletc, Izgrev and Aheloj 2 are widely grown feed barley varieties in Bulgaria. Stability parameters were estimated by the model of Lin and Binns (1988) and GGE biplot methodology was used for graphical display of yield data. According to the results, genotype x environment interactions for grain yield was highly significant indicating genetic variability between genotypes by changing enviroment. Average grain yield of varieties in six-year trail ranged from 5.13 t/ha (Vesletc) to 5.78 t/ha (Bozhin). High yield combined with high stability was demonstrated by new varieties Bozhin end Iz Bori.

Susceptibility of black currant varieties grown in Troyan to Antracnose (Gloeosporium ribis) Mont. et Desm

Abstract. The ratio of the following black currant varieties to economically important fungal disease antracnose (Gloeosporium ribes) is examined: Neosipayushchiyasya, Bogatir, Biryulevskaya, Ometta, Titania, Lissil, Hedda, Ben Moor, Ben Tirran, Ben Sarek, Ben Lomond and Silvergieters schwarze. They are grown in a plantation without a collector’s plant-protection activities in natural background contamination. In the varieties tested in the years of the study varying degrees of attack were established. The assault index reported at Ometta and Hedda varieties varies most widely. Years characterized by more rainfall favor stronger development of the disease. For the entire period of the study with the least antracnose attack outlines the following varieties: Ben Sarek, Bogatir, Silvergieters schwarze

Study of the tolerance of alfalfa varieties (Medicago Sativa L) to Sitona species (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Abstract. During the period 2006-2009 in the experimental field of IFC-Pleven a field trial was conducted with 8 alfalfa varieties included in the Official variety list of Bulgaria (2005): Europe (France), Prista 2 (Obraztsov chiflik, Ruse), Prista 3 (Obraztsov chiflik, Ruse), Prista 4 (Obraztsov chiflik, Ruse), Obnova 10 (IFC, Pleven), Pleven 6 (IFC, Pleven), Dara (IFC, Pleven), Multifoliate (Obraztsov chiflik, Ruse). Most pronounced was the nodulation in varieties Europe, Obnova 10 and Multifoliate (average for the period 71.2, 66.8 and 65.1 pcs. of nodules/10 roots). Damaged nodules by larva of species of genus Sitona increased from spring to autumn regrowth in different years from 2.86% to 21.35%. As tolerant varieties to the damages of species of genus Sitona was manifested Obnova 10 and Multifoliate – the percentage of damaged nodules was average 6.83 and 7.93, the density of fretted fosses was 13.8 and 13.9 pcs. of fosses/10 roots, the percentage of damaged plants was 31.3 and 32.2%. The established varieties could be used as sources of germplasm which is tolerant to species of the genus Sitona.

Comparative study of different varieties of red clover in Bulgarian conditions

Abstract. During the 2007-2009 period in the experimental field of RIMSA – Troyan, a field trial was carried out with 10 varieties of red clover. Five varieties from Switzerland and four varieties from Japan were studied for Botanical composition, Morphological analysis, Yield of green mass and dry matter and Chemical analysis, comparing them with a Bulgarian candidate variety from Troyan. There were no significant differences with regard to the yields of fresh and dry mass from the different varieties of red clover. The diploid Japanese variety Sapporo was the highest-yielding and it exceeded the candidate variety from Troyan by almost 13% and 11% for the fresh and dry mass, respectively. It had also the best chemical composition, therefore it can be recommended to the practice in the foremountainous regions of Bulgaria. The highest presence of red clover was found in the second experimental year. The portion of stems was predominant in the fresh mass of red clover, followed by that of leaves and flowers.

Productive and quality characteristics of brown cotton

Abstract: Breeding of coloured cotton varieties will help to solve certain existing ecological problems concerning dyeing of yarn and tissues. In 2007-2009 competitive variety trials were conducted with brown cotton lines. The results obtained showed that, some of them in earliness and productivity were equal to the early and high yielding variety of white cotton Chipan-539. These lines are of great importance for developing of new cotton varieties with high economical and ecological effects in spite of their shorter fiber and lower lint percentage than those of standard cultivars. Some others (created later) had fiber length equal to that of check variety which reveals a possibility for enhancing the fiber quality of brown cotton trough breeding. Lines No 196 and 197 have commercial potential. Very valuable were lines No 105 and 106 with naked seeds, No 201 with naked seeds and natural early fall of the leaf. The variety Izabell is a new achievement in the breeding of a new generation varieties with an exclusive characteristic – naturally coloured brown lint. This variety had high productivity, earliness, suitableness for machine picking, medium fine and short fiber with high uniformity, good elongation and strength. In fiber length and some fiber length characteristics it was inferior to the standard cultivars – Chirpan-539 and Avangard-264. By the other technological fiber properties it was equal to the standards.
